Film and Design minor
This section includes pictures documenting my work in classes I have taken for the Film and Design minor that is managed in collaboration between Northwestern University in Qatar, Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, and Doha Film Institute.
The film and Design Collaborative class was a class I experienced in it, a mix of designing sets and filmmaking digitally. In this class, we experienced several phases. First, we learned how to make short documentaries. Second, we learned how to make physical models to present to the production team the proposed set. Third, we learned how to apply to a film fund using modern tools.
The One-Person Documentarian class was a unique experience. It taught me how to create a full documentary as a one-person documentarian. Which relied a lot on multitasking and practice. In this class, I made a short film, On the Road, highlighting mental health and adventure. This section includes several stills from the short documentary.
Directing Actors class allowed me to experience acting and directing simultaneously and understand how actors feel. The final class project was a ten-minute Palestinian film I wrote and directed called Jameela. I designed and implement the full rehearsal program, script, set design, and audio-visual content.
The Foundations of Screenwriting class for short films taught me how to write a script. I wrote a script called Jameela inspired by my father's story when his family had to flee from Palestine in the 1967 war.
Costume Design class taught me how to create costumes that fit characters based on the available scripts. I learned to create a universe from scratch and focus on the art aspect, especially the costumes. I learned how to draw manually and use reference pictures in the mood board process. This class taught me to create mood boards, material boards, and color palette breakdowns.
Writing the TV Series class introduced me to the series universe. It allowed me to understand how series are written and what patterns they all have in common, which helped me in several projects, such as an informative show “Mn Beijing” I directed about China. In this class's final project, we wrote a full-series script about a military team. We were working collaboratively as professionals work in the writers' room.
